Title: Claiming Your Corner: Why Every Mom Needs a Space of Her Own
Intro Summary:
You don’t need a spare room to feel like yourself again. Learn how to carve out a cozy, intentional space that’s all yours—because your peace shouldn’t be an afterthought.
Hello for my love of parenting parents – welcome back. I came up with today topics because – I often feel like I do not have the perfect space in my home for myself. I have spent a lot of time getting my children’s rooms together when we first moved in, organizing my kitchen, designing my bathrooms and other rooms in the house. I have always longed for a space just for me. Until now. I have started a role and I felt like this would be the perfect time to focus on that sweet, cozy spot just for me. But where and how do I start.
And for those mamas with little kids - Let’s be real. Between the laundry piles, the constant demands, and the noise (so much noise), it can feel like there’s no room left for you—physically or emotionally. But here’s the truth: you deserve a space that’s just yours. Not for the kids, not for your partner, not for folding towels. Just. For. You.
This isn’t about luxury or Pinterest perfection. This is about creating a space—no matter how small—that reminds you of who you are, outside of being a mom. It’s a space that whispers: Come sit, you matter too.
Most rooms in our homes come with a clear purpose. The kitchen feeds us. The living room hosts the chaos. The bedroom offers rest. But where do you go to think your own thoughts? To take a breath? To reset?
You don’t need a spare room or a makeover budget. What you need is intention. An overlooked corner, an awkward nook, even a bit of underused hallway can become your personal haven. Look around your home with fresh eyes—not for function, but for possibility.
When you carve out this space, you're doing more than decorating—you’re making a statement: I matter enough to take up space. And that message echoes louder than any mantra or meditation app.
It also sets a boundary that the rest of the household can start to understand. When you retreat to your spot, it's not because you’re hiding. It’s because you’re protecting something important—your time, your energy, your sanity.
This isn’t selfish. It’s survival. It’s restoration. It’s you saying: If I don’t pour into myself, what will I have left to give?
This is the fun part. You get to decide what lives in your little sanctuary. Think of it as curating a corner that reflects your spirit—without needing to explain it to anyone.
- Love color? Fill it with bold prints and inspiring quotes.
- Prefer calm? Stick with soft lighting and textures that feel like a hug.
- Need nature? A plant, a breeze, a sliver of sunlight through the window can work wonders.
Maybe it’s a floor cushion and a notebook. Maybe it’s your favorite candle, a cozy throw, and that book you’ve read three times but always come back to. The key is to make it yours, not anyone else’s version of what “relaxing” should look like.
No boho tapestry required (unless you love one).
This space only works if you use it—and honor it.
Visit it daily. Even for five minutes. Let it become part of your rhythm, the way brushing your teeth or making coffee is. Let it hold space for you to breathe, journal, stretch, dream, or just sit and not be needed.
Let it remind you that you exist outside the to-do list.
And most importantly, protect it. Don’t let it become a dumping ground for stray socks or unpaid bills. Let it be a place where the mental clutter stops and the you underneath it all can exhale.
As I wrap up today's episode, I just want to leave you with this thought - You don’t need permission to take up space. But just in case no one’s told you lately—this is yours to claim.
So go ahead. Create that corner, hang that “Do Not Disturb (Unless You’re Bleeding)” sign, light the candle, or toss the throw blanket over your lap. Make your space. Use your space. Come home to yourself.
You deserve that much, and more.
Until next time, take care!
