Kimberly Myers, M.A.Ed., ICCE, IBCLC Season 3 Episode 80

In this episode of For the Love of Parenting, we’re stepping into September’s season of renewal. While back-to-school no longer means buying school supplies, bus stops, after-school snack chaos, or drop-offs at college for me, the month still carries that unmistakable ‘fresh start’ energy.

Together, we’ll explore how parents can embrace September as more than just a transition for kids—it’s a reset for us, too. From carving out a cozy corner just for yourself to reimagining unused spaces in your home, this is about reclaiming both your physical and emotional space.

You’ll hear how small shifts—like signing up for that yoga/fitness class, dusting off the treadmill, or simply giving yourself five quiet minutes in the morning—can spark growth and renewal. September is your time to say: I matter too.

Whether your kids are little or already out of the house, this episode invites you to pause, breathe, and begin again. Because new beginnings aren’t just for the young—they’re for anyone ready to reclaim their space and step into what’s nex

Intro Summary

Hey moms, can I let you in on something? September once meant crayons, bus stops, after-school snacks, and even long drives back to college. But what happens when your children are older and “back to school” no longer looks the same?

Here is the secret: this season still has something to offer us. September is not just for kids — it is a reset button for parents too. A chance to reclaim space, reset routines, and rediscover the parts of ourselves we tucked away while raising our families.

So join me as we step into September’s season of renewal — and talk about how to find fresh meaning and purpose in this stage of life.

Want to talk about how to make this season yours? Well, if so, come on!

Podcast

Hello, my For the Love of Parenting parents — welcome back!

If you’ve been following along, you know that in my last couple of episodes, we unpacked something really important: mom and baby brain development. We talked about how “mommy brain” isn’t broken — it’s your brain rewiring itself to help you connect, nurture, and care for your baby in those early years.

But as I sat with those conversations… September rolled in. And it hit me.
Back-to-school season looks a little different now that my kids are older. No new crayons, no waiting at the bus stop, no after-school snack chaos.

And yet, the season of September still has meaning. It’s a time of renewal. A reset. And I realized — maybe this fresh start doesn’t have to be just for kids anymore. Maybe it can be for us too.

From Baby Brain to Mom’s Space

In fact, in one of my earlier episodes, I shared how I spent years designing spaces for everyone else in my home — kids’ rooms, bathrooms, kitchens — while longing for a little space of my own.

And this September, that longing felt louder than ever. So I started carving out a cozy little spot just for me. Nothing fancy. Not Pinterest-perfect. But a corner that simply says: Kimmy, you matter too.

Because here’s the truth: just as our children’s brains grow and adapt, we need to keep growing too. Creating space — physically and emotionally — is part of our own development as moms, as women, as people.

The September Reset

Now, here’s where you come in. September has always carried that “fresh start” energy. But what if this year, instead of buying school supplies, you gave yourself permission to reset?

Maybe that means:

  • finally signing up for that yoga class,
  • dusting off the treadmill,
  • or trying something new in your career or relationships.

It could even be as simple as reclaiming a quiet moment in the morning that’s just yours.

The point is: September belongs to you, too.

Reclaiming Space, Inside and Out

And if your kids are out of the house — or just spending less time at home — you might even notice physical space opening up.

That extra bedroom? It could become your meditation nook or office.
That quiet corner? A cozy reading chair.
Even decluttering a shelf or drawer can feel symbolic — like clearing space in your mind.

This isn’t selfish. This is you saying: I matter enough to take up space.

Let It Evolve

And here’s the thing — it doesn’t have to stay the same. Just like our kids grow and change, so will we.

Your cozy corner this September might be about quiet and stillness.
Next September, maybe it’s about creativity or adventure.

The important part is that you use it, honor it, and let it evolve with you.

Final Thought

So here’s my takeaway for you today: September isn’t just for kids anymore. It’s for us too — the parents who’ve spent years pouring into everyone else.

This is your season to reclaim space, reset routines, and remind yourself: you’re still growing, still becoming, still worthy of new beginnings.

So, come on — look around. Maybe it’s a corner, maybe it’s a new routine, maybe it’s that dream you’ve been keeping on the back burner. Whatever it is, give yourself permission to begin again.

Because beginnings aren’t just for the young. They’re for anyone who’s ready to pause, breathe, and step into what’s next.
